Reflection on Sample Unit Plan
The sample unit plan is a brief unit on Earth’s organisms, with emphasis on the diversity of Earth’s organisms. The unit plan starts with getting students interested about diversity, and then segues into different forms of diversity – such as microscopic diversity, food chains, fungi, plants, and invertebrates. The penultimate day is spent reviewing for the test and a class discussion on diversity. The unit plan also details the necessary materials to complete the unit.
Relevant InTASC standards for this item:
Standard 2 (a, b, c, g)
o My unit plan attempts to account for many different learning styles – looking at the daily chart, it’s obvious that I try to vary things . between visual learners, kinesthetic learners, auditory learners, and more.
Standard 4 (a, b, d, h, j, l, m)
o This unit plan is chock full of content knowledge – simply reading the titles of the various days will make that obvious. I attempt to allow . students different ways of understanding the content.
Standard 5 (b, i)
o I attempt to integrate content knowledge with real world applications – demonstrating how scientists can use their knowledge – there are . lectures on virii and bacteria, food chains, baking, etc, all of which are relevant to reality.
Standard 7 (a, b, c, d, g, h, k)
o The unit plan inherently is all about planning accordingly for different students and varieties of assessments. Content standards are listed . under every day’s activity.
