Expectancy Sheet
Dear Student and Parent/Guardian:
We have had a successful year thus far. Let’s keep at it Nighthawks! As students may be aware, Mr. Hunter has been cooperatively teaching with Mrs. Wilson during the past semester. This semester Mr. Hunter will be leading the class entirely and thus wishes to address any concerns you may have.
My Expectations for the Students:
As always, I want everybody to have a great time learning Biology with me as your teacher. Here’s a list of things I’d like you to keep in mind while we progress through the most interesting subject in the world (in my opinion):
· Be respectful of others.
· Try your hardest.
o Get your homework and lab-work in on time.
o Pay attention in class.
o Show up on time to class.
· Communicate regularly with me.
If you can keep up with these expectations, you will do well in the class.
My Expectations for the Parents/Guardians:
As we all know, parents are critical in their child’s education. We hope you understand this, and as such we hope that you will:
· Assist your child in time management and study skills.
· Discuss Biology or Medicine topics with your child regularly.
· Encourage your children to do their best.
Expectations for Myself:
As your teacher, I have to be vigilant and do our best to make sure your education is the best it can be. As such, I will:
· Report your child’s performance in the class in a timely manner.
· Help students who are struggling.
· Communicate regularly with parents/guardians via email.
Grading Policy:
Students will receive grades according to the following breakdown. Remember, these grades are weighted (A test affects your grade more strongly than a homework).
Classwork/Homework: 20% (Assignments 1 Day Late Receive ½ credit, 2 Days Late Receive 0 credit)
Exams/Tests/Quizzes: 40% (1x Final exam: 15% ; 5x Unit tests: 5% each)
Notebook: 10% (In 3-ring Binder)
Labs: 30%
Total: 100%
Any assignment not turned in within the allotted time will receive a zero (0%). However, missed work may be made up in Conference Period. It is the student’s responsibility to come in to make up this grade! We will do our best to assist, but you must make an effort as well. Classwork can be made up at any time in the year, but labwork must be made up within a week or two, as the materials may not be available.
Absences/Tardies:
It is the student’s responsibility to inform the teacher of any absences/tardies and obtain any missed notes, labwork, or classwork/homework. If the absence is excused, the student may return the classwork/homework the next school day. Notes may be copied from neighbors. Labwork and unexcused classwork/homework must be made up in conference period.
Behavior Policy:
Positive
Students who exhibit good behaviors (such as being on-task, turning homework in on time, paying attention in class, etc) may be rewarded in the following ways:
· Praise
· Positive phone call home.
· Amnesty for one late homework
o One homework assignment may be turned in late for full credit. Students must write in large letters “AMNESTY” over the top of their . homework to use this benefit.
Negative
Students exhibiting behaviors deemed as negative or distracting will be subject to the following punishments:
· 1st time: Warning
· 2nd and 3rd time: Detention in conference period. If you miss these, we go to referrals.
· 4th time: Referral
Severity Clause: If a student engages in particularly negative behavior, the teacher reserves the right to skip straight to the last step.
Bathroom Policy
Due to incidents in the past regarding students taking too long and too frequent trips to the bathroom, I have instituted a policy where all students may go to the bathroom a maximum of six times per semester. In other words, use your passes in case of emergency, not to go talk with friends.
Thank you Nighthawks, and let’s have a wonderful year!

Reflection on Expectancy Sheet and Syllabus
In this expectancy sheet, I describe my expectations for the year, from the students, from the parents, and from myself. I have a few simple rules for each of the expectations. Additionally, I have a grading policy (that allows opportunities to make up missed work), as well as an absence/tardy policy and a behavior policy. The behavior policy entails positive benefits and negative detriments dependent on the student’s behavior. Additionally, a few changes to prior rules have been added into the expectancy sheet. After the expectancy sheet, a course outline is laid out.
InTASC standards relevant to this item:
Standard 1 (a, b, c, d, e, i, j, k)
o The course expectancy sheet details how to help students learn, as well responsibilities from students, parents, and the teacher. It shows a . clear understanding of how learning works on the part of the teacher.
Standard 3 (a, c, d, f, j, k, n)

Standard 6 (a, b, e, k, o)
o The expectancy sheet also details how grading will function in the classroom, and my tools of assessment, including lab write ups, . classwork/homework, tests, and students’ own notes.
Standard 7 (g)
o The curriculum put after the course expectancy sheet illustrates an overarching planning for the entire year.
